Why is the story of brutus still intriguing readers today?

The fact that he had to choose b/w a best friend or the selfish desire to rule (or something like that) and he chose the selfish side. In the end he had to pay for it. It applies to many people in real life, many of us can be selfish and suffer the consequences.
