Why do so many women say they can not feed?

I know for myself, I couldn't feed because of the fact that she was so early and all the different medications I was on. I never seemed to produce milk either, I was trying to pump so I could try to feed after I got off meds. My son as also early, but having to be rushed into the operating room for emergency surgery after delivery put that on hold also. As before I just couldn't produced milk.
