Do you think I could get 52% of California to vote against out-of-state groups funding their legislation?

The problem with Prop 8. was that all the Dems in California (pretty damn blue state) shrugged it off because they didn't think it would ever p, especially considering the former legality of gay marriage prior to its ping and the fact that the proposition itself is quite obviously unconstitutional.
