What is the form of this poem called, or is it free verse?

It has a visible rhyming form (per Synopsis above) so it is not freeverse. It has meter too in regular occurring patterns. 7-7-7-7-8-8-2-2-8. But it does not fall under one of the more popular clifications. I've seen it here many times but of a varied pattern. The rhythm (song) in his head dictated this form. Is it syllabic verse with a bit of twist? Probably. Nonetheless, it sounds good and reads good.
