How do you turn off the Check Engine light in a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee without taking it to a dealer?

The check engine light came on while relocating from texas to new mexico. It had a load in the back and didn't like the rolling hills on the highway. It has a 6 cyl and is running in perfect condition. There's nothing wrong with it and I just want to turn off the check engine light that's illuminating on the instrument panel without having to take it to a mechanic or a dealer. Is there a way it can be reset?
