Harrment for a lost ring at a wedding that alleged owner was not in attendance too, need help and answers!?
I got married at the end of july and I had one of my bridesmaids was allowed to bring two of her friends to the wedding but they did not show up. At the end of the reception one of the reception workers found a ring and gave it to my bridesmaid and asked her to give it to me. She did the next day and then me and my husband went on our honeymoon. When we got back she called and said that the ring belonged to one of the girls who never showed up to my wedding. She asked me to send it to her and I said that I would go ahead and make sure that was not someones ring here first. She continued to call me and my husband about the ring, reminder the person whom it allegedly belongs to did not make the contacts..anyway..I did go ahead and let her know I would send it in the mail and was refused becasue I would not send the ring the way they wanted me to. I offered to send it again but they refused to provide me with an address or accept sending it on my terms. They called me numerous times telling me that a UPS man was coming to my home at a certain time and I needed to be available so he can pick the ring up. I have 3 children and work and hav afterschool activities and with times like they are, it is not safe to answer the door for someone you are not certain of or sure about. I explained that to them and told them that I did not loose the ring, I have no proof that it belongs to her, I have not description of the ring and so now they will need to bring proof of purchase and description of the ring before I will turn it over because it was lost and found I did not steal it. Things started getting shaky with the refusals so I decided to let them know they need to return to Miami to pick up the ring. Yes, they live in Illinois, I live in Miami Florida where the wedding was and again she did not show up so how do I know it is hers. Me and my husbands, home and cell phone numbers and emails have been ped around to the mother of this young lady whom the alleged ring belongs to and now they have gone as far as contacting Judge Judy and have a producer calling both of our cell phones and sending emails telling us that I am being sued for having possession of the ring. My question is this, If the ring was lost then found, I never met the owner in question, she has never seen the ring that was found and she refused our methods of sending the ring, what legal rights do we have and can we file a harrment suit against both parties, the bridesmaid for providing my contact information and the owner in question? Do we have to return the ring on their terms since they lost it and we found it? If they want the ring, do they have to come to Miami to get it and bring proof of purchase and a valid description of the ring? Can I do something about the harrment calls and emails and threats of a lawsuit and this being filed on my credit profile? This has been going on Since August 3, 2008 and I would like to resolve it. My husband and myself are fed up and would like closure to this matter and some legal advice. Also, please note, this happened on July 26,2008 when her ring went missing, but there has not been a police report made for the item here in miami so does that dismiss this any? Thank you for your time.
