Do you think there is a chance widespread violence could break out in the U.S. ?

I'm not trying to be a fear monger or an alarmist, but I am reflecting on some articles I have read recently... one guy got shot because he was an anti-abortion protestor. And today I was reading an article about a census worker than got hanged from a tree with the word "fed" carved in his chest. Do you think little incidents like this are a sign of what is to come?
