Can I legally ingest my perscription pills however i want?

If I have a certain drug legally perscribed to me (ie adderal) can I legally ingest it however I want (ie crush n snort) or is it illegal to not follow the directions on the bottle? I'm not planning on doin it at all, the question just popped into my head, so don't go chastising me instead of answering the question :P
